From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
